Sakura – pink time of the year.

Japanes love to celebrate their special times of the year: one of them is autumn when all the trees turn red and yellow and the other time is spring time when cherry blossoms bloom. This is also called Sakura and it’s a very popular time. Hanami is a traditional custom to visit mountains or parks for viewing cherry blossoms. Hanami is a celebration often with friends having a picnic under Cherry trees, drinking Sake (Japanese rice wine) and enjoying the pink hues.
But what I also find funny, is that not only the trees turn pink, but it seems that the general dress code on the streets of Tokyo turn into more violet and pink hues – especially among young teenage girls. They often even wear a pink wig and dolls outfit.
Pink is really taking over:  in Starbucks you can order Sakura theme pink milk foam coffee. In food stores the traditional rice-sweets are cherry blossom-shaped and every possible candie or edible thing will be decorated with cherry blossom theme.
Sakura time is usually in April and lasts for few weeks. I was celebrating Sakura among friends with pink Baumkuchen and peach drink. Don’t you just love it! :)))
